Overview
For the past 15 years, Mark Troutman has focused his practice on complex consumer litigation and class actions, representing individuals and groups in cases involving corporate misconduct, deceptive practices, and financial harm. He has built his career holding large corporations accountable in high-stakes litigation across the country. Mark Troutman began his career representing plaintiffs and defendants in litigation involving a wide array of personal injuries. At Troutman & Judge, Mark Troutman will be resuming his personal injury practice to seek justice for injured parties.
He has been appointed to leadership positions in numerous complex cases and is regularly entrusted with key roles in multi-district and class action litigation. Mark also served as Special Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General in litigation against five major pharmaceutical manufacturers, asserting claims tied to deceptive marketing practices that contributed to the opioid crisis in Ohio and beyond.
In private practice, Mark has secured significant results for consumers nationwide. He served as lead counsel in a consumer class action against Porsche involving defective vehicle design, resulting in a $45 million settlement for approximately 50,000 class members. He has also served as co-lead counsel in a class action against a national fitness chain and co-lead counsel in litigation involving allegedly improper royalty deductions in oil and gas lease agreements.
He is also a long-standing contributor to consumer law scholarship and advocacy, having co-authored Ohio Consumer Law for more than a decade and remaining actively involved in plaintiffs’ organizations at the state and national level.
He is admitted to practice law in Ohio.
Litigation Highlights
- State of Ohio ex rel. Dave Yost v. Purdue Pharma L.P. – Represented the State of Ohio in litigation against major opioid manufacturers alleging public nuisance and deceptive marketing practices contributing to widespread harm.
- In re Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Coolant Tubes Product Liability Litigation – Lead counsel in class action involving approximately 50,000 Porsche Cayenne owners; achieved settlement valued at over $40 million addressing defective vehicle components.
- Overdraft Bank Fee Cases – Represented bank customers all over the country in 75+ class actions obtaining tens of millions of dollars for financial institutions’ deduction of unauthorized overdraft bank fees.
- Eaton v. Ascent Resources – Utica, LLC – Represents oil and gas lessors alleging improper royalty deductions; obtained class certification in one of the early Ohio class actions involving underpayment of royalties.
